EyeTV App Reviews

One of my favourite apps

This app works great and I love it! I will give it 5 stars when I can change to a different channel from within the channel Im watching rather then have to go to the program guide first.

One of my favorite app

Work great a must have

Good App that could be Great

Like the remote scheduling but without the ability to export to iPad/iPhone or AppleTV from the App makes it impossible to remotely export. I dont want every show to export so dont want to have to turn this on in the software.

Solid App

This app has the potential to be extraordinary, but, for now, it is simply good. I would love for the UI to be tweaked to make it possible to be browsing the program guide while youre watching a particular program. As it is now, you must exit the video stream before being able to browse the guide. My only gripe is that you must set up iPad/iPhone access on your recorded content before being able to watch recorded shows on your iDevice. This is easy to do, but the majority of my shows were not set up for this during the initial recording.

Works ok but cant delete recording when finished

Some features missing...

Good but missing a couple key features

I like this app. The guide makes this such a better product than the Slingbox. One gripe I have is that you cant remotely tell your satellite receiver to turn on? So if you leave the house and forget to leave your satellite box on, you are done. Tech support claims the software will tell the receiver to turn on for recorded events but you cant remotely turn on the receiver like you can with Slingbox.

Fix it!

The EyeTV App wont let me what Live TV orRecorded shows on my Newest iPad (iPad 3) fix this cause I dont need an app that wastes space and money.

Can not connect

I can not connect to eyetv? Is there some update?

Excellent app lacks Canadian integration

with respect to design, intuitive features and screens. Easy installation and generally strong ranking for stability. The primary exception is the lack of integration within the Canadian marketplace. There is highly regarded Canadian Content rules as well as distribution methods and market oversight (the CRTC) who for years allowed the locust of control for delivery to reside with cable providers. As a result each provider has its own proprietary systems and having now moved to HD in Canada there few options to descrambler signals in the cable or satellite delivery realm. Basic cable being the only option when QAM/Air signals a not possible or weak and inconsistent. Not impressed with the limited functionality and range in this market.

It works for me

The only technical problem Ive ever had was solved by restarting my iPad (restarting the app didnt do it). The only significant limitation lies with the awful controls the cable companies give us over our TVs. If you have to change channels using your cable box, the functionality of EyeTV is severely limited. Thats not the apps fault. If your EyeTV device _is_ receiving the right channel though, all of a sudden youre carrying TV with you pretty much wherever you go. I like to watch the news and such on the patio or balcony and all I have to do is bring my iPad. If youre receiving HD, that shows up _beautifully_ on the iPad. If you use EyeTV a lot, the Turbo 264 hardware is a really worthwhile addition.

Works great

The app works great when on a LAN out of the box and on 3G once setup correctly. What was a little trying was that I had to open the correct port on my firewall and port forward that same port from my router. After that, adding a new connection with the correct My EyeTV account/password worked great. I would have given the review 5 stars but since the help was not crystal clear on how to fix this, I rated it down one star.

Eye tv

Needs more canadian tv build settings

Great app, but...

Great app. Works almost flawlessly for me on shaw cable... My one gripe. When using airplay my ipad goes to sleep and shuts off airplay, making it a frustration to use.

Nickel and dimers

Once upon a time this app was great as was their eyetv os software ($80). Then Elgato decided that there is still more money to be made from their paying customers. First they started charging for the program guide data that was once free. Now that costs $19 a year. And now they removed the ability to stream remotely free. To do that now itll cost you $50. Removing and then charging for features is the ultimate dik move by software developers. Do yourself a favor and get an eyetv alternative.

Help

Doesnt work if IP address is changed by provider drives me crazy!!!

Needs a remote to change channels

I switched from the slingbox to this. The one thing I miss (even though sling crapped the bed on the last update that ended up ruining my sling) is the remote. We cant rely on what TV guide gives us for info to properly change the channels. Especially when the program guide differs from my cable providers guide... Give us a remote!! As mentioned in other reviews, let me erase shows in this app. Also theres no component selection in av input Apart from that I have no opinion :)

Is basically a basic remote that wont stream from slightly older Macs

My desktop setup is an HDHomerun plus EyeTV 3, which works fine on my iMac... I was under the impression that this app did some of the heavy lifting for accepting the HDHomerun feed (like EyeTV) but it instead uses the computer to do all the transcoding and stream the feed, which doesnt work at all from my old(ish) 2.4mhz intel iMac. Then I bought a Turbo264 to hopefully speed it up, and it still doesnt work. To top it off, the app doesnt directly read .eyetv recordings, but rather needs to convert the entire recording (which takes forever and uses your iMac to do it) before playing, which is useless for me. So what I have here is a $5 channel guide. Nice. I guess Ill need to invest in a Mac Mini or a new home computer to get this to work. Sigh.

Recommended for those who record teevee using EyeTV on their Mac.

Works great.

Not impressed

The new update works fine except most import part the TV guide. Cannot check programs and set recordings. Update has turned ipad into worst tv in house,

With just a few enhancements…

If VLC and Plex can stream EyeTV files on the Mac directly to iOS then why is Elgato still tediously converting recordings first? It takes forever before you can start watching, even with a fast Mac as it doesnt use all available CPU, so I just use Plex. But, EyeTV can stream live TV yet mysteriously not recorded shows until theyve been converted. This makes no sense. The app says EyeTV is not running on the Mac. Really? Then how am I able to actually watch the recordings and live TV? I really miss the skip forward/back buttons in iOS that are on the Mac. For some reason they are missing on the app. The only option is to use single-speed fast forward or rewind. Very clumsy and inconsistent. It doesnt resume where you left off playing. Read that sentence again. Hard to believe, right? There is no way to delete recordings from the library. Another odd omission. You cannot create a manual schedule. You must pay for the TV Guide subscription that is full of errors just to schedule a recording, but it cant be edited to adjust the times. When I set up/delete a manual schedule on the Mac, it does not appear/disappear in the Schedules window on the iOS device unless I switch away to one of the other tabs and return. Thats real old-fashioned programming and shouldnt be happening in a modern app. A change on the server should immediately be reflected on the client. Once a manual schedule is set up on the Mac, it cannot be edited in iOS, it can only be deleted. BUT, if you delete it it doesnt disappear from the window. The Delete button changes to a Record button, which when tapped, does nothing. If you then navigate away from the Schedules tab and return, I found 4 schedules with no title. Checking the Mac, they appear there as 0 seconds long, to be recorded 2000-12-31 19:00. So yeah, kinda buggy and feature poor. Similarly for playlists, you cant create/delete them in iOS, they dont appear/disappear until you navigate away from the Recordings tab and return, you cant see the criteria for Smart Playlists in iOS so you better give them a good name. Basically, Elgato needs to take a page from the MythTV and Plex playbooks and create separate client and server components. The client on the Mac and iOS should then have identical features. As it stands now, the iOS client is a stripped down version of the native Mac app. Other than a new paint job, the same limitations remain as the previous version.
