EyeTV App Comentários

Running Mojave? - DON’T GET THIS ! ! !

Three stars because it works with the 6 computers running systems older than 14.0 here but won’t locate the one running Mojave. Needs updating for systems above High Sierra 10.3. (Aug 2022)

Streams live TV & DVR shows to your local network

I’m new to this app even tho I’ve owned 3 eyeTV tuners over the years. The eyeTV iOS app works great streaming live TV and DVR recordings from the eyeTV software running on both on my MacBook Pro (eyeTV HD) and Mac Pro (eyeTV 250+) to both my iPhone and iPad mini when connected to my local network. The closed caption feature works even better on the i-devices than the Macs - tho you have to set it to “unknown language” instead of “auto” to view the captions. I can’t comment on older, removed features except that the remote streaming option sounds nice. IIRC the app cost $5US and was well worth it. The app has been utterly reliable. The only issue I’ve ever had was on the Mac side where I had to reboot it once to re-enable the eyeTV video server. The Mac eyeTV tuner and DVR software was still working at that time, it just stopped streaming to the iOS devices. So 4 out of 5 stars for the minor CC issue and the disappointment of no new eyeTV tuners for the North American market :(

Doesn’t work for iOS 14.4

Please make it work for the latest versions!

Still not working with EyeTV 4

Still doesn’t work with eyetv 4. The channels appear but no image when navigate to that channel.

Death of EyeTV

I've been using EyeTV for many years. Now the developers have abandoned and it's a useless piece of hardware sitting in my house. When you go to Geniatech's website your ignored. The death of EyeTV in the USA. Who is responsible for this?

TV support

Please support TV App. Do something, there are still a lot of EyeTV users that want developer activity.

Works on local network, but no longer over internet

This app used to be excellent. The whole system was a great solution for taking local broadcast programming and streaming it to your device anywhere you were. Now it only works on the local network within my house. When I am outside of that local network, it pretends like it will work, and everything gets up and running correctly, but then it only streams a black screen with no audio. I wish they would fix it.

To bad

App no longer works in the US and is not updated by the new company.

Avoid and don't waste your money

They never update this app and crashes too frequently. Works fine on a MacBook Pro (2010 model) running Mac OS 10.6 but on a more powerful imac running Sierra it is total garbage. Video and audio studders and hogs the cpu(s) unlike when running on os 10.6 which barely uses any cpu to live stream.

My Eye TV

I am having trouble purchasing TV Guide for scheduling my recordings.I don't buy software in Euros and have contacted the company in Germany via email with no response. There is no way on the website to buy the software in dollars. The shows are look pretty on my 27" iMac. I could use a stronger signal. I use a Radio Shack digital air antenna to get a fairly strong picture. I have a 5K computer and would like to see The Eye TV program start broadcasting sharper video.

Bring back the airplay button

The EyeTV app works pretty good, but the airplay button is missing. Prior to iOS 10, the app would stream AirPlay to an Apple TV if AirPlay was selected in the control center. With iOS 10, AirPlay on apps without an AirPlay button as part of the app now defaults to mirroring mode only; there's no way around it. With Geniatech now owning EyeTV, they need to put in a bit of programming effort and add an AirPlay button to this app.

Does not do what is suppose to do

got this piece of junk to use like the "EYETV" on my IMAC does not work wants to sell hardware that will not get any TV in my area save your money don’t buy. my rating is zero stars.

Eye TV

For TV on the mac, this is the best. No matter the price, iti is worth every penny.

Just what I need!

I have a second home over 260 miles from where I live and have a " triple play" Internet, TV and phone account with the local cable company there. When Cablevison at my residence starting requiring a stupid cable box with every TV in the house, I moved my EyeTV hybrid to my second residence - so now I can watch the TV service that I pay for miles away, including the local news there, on my iPad where I live. (Oh, and I can also get the Buffalo Bills games that they never show here! Sweet!)

Used to kind of work but now it doesn't work at all.

This app has never worked very well but now the live stream doesn't work whatsoever.

Great app

I really find useful I wish you made it for surface pro surfers book

LiveTV useless, recordings pause frequently

I bought the iPad and iPhone versions. Save yourself the $5. LiveTV is useless even on a 5ghz wireless network, a powerful Mac, and a iPhone6s. Recordings start off good but after 5 mins pause so frequently it's useless. They should not have come out with this app. Apple did not test this app.

Great start, but late and feature poor.

The app is great on the iPad and iPhone and worth the money! BUT WHERE IS THE THE APP FOR APPLE TV?

Works Okay...

I have Eyetv 3.6 running on a 2011 Mac mini 2.5 i5 w/ SSD serving tv and recording for 2 iPads. Overall streaming works okay. Even at its highest quality setting its more pixelated and choppy than my Directv hd I used to have, but it works. Overall layout is nice and clean. It takes a about 15-20 seconds sometimes for it to recognize the Mac and start serving tv. I have not been able to get EPG to work on the iOS client even though I've paid for the yearly TV guide subscription and it works fine on Eyetv for Mac. I've emailed Elgato about this. You can't channel surf. Each time you want to change the channel you have to go back to the guide which is annoying. Overall I'm kinda meh... on it. Most of the features work, it's just kind of slow at times and the streaming quality is just okay.

Doesn’t stream outside of my home network,

I can get the app to work on my iPhone and iPad when at home on the same WiFi network as my desktop, but I’ve tested in various places on WiFi while out and about, at work, etc… and app is never able to connect to my home computer.

Very buggy

Live stream never works. Disappointing that users have to make stream able versions of recorded files, even over LAN. Overall, could be a much better designed and implemented app.

Needs Apple Watch Update

I use this app all the time. You need to give us an update that will work on Apple Watch.

Will not even install

I'd say it's not hard to evaluate when it won't even install.

Works with LAN, router settings needed for WAN

I don't understand all the negative reviews. For about five bucks I have another TV in my home. Note that this is add on software for eyeTv that is running on your MAC. If you think this application is going to give you TV channels without the MAC's eyeTV application, you are mistaken. This sure beats my cable TV providers iPad software and channels that it offers. This works very well over the home local area network. One just has to change Apples software firewall settings in the security system preferences. Amazingly, this will start up eye TV on my computer even though it was not previously running. Getting this to Work outside the home LAN over the Internet (wide area network) is more difficult unless you have an Apple airport router. I have DLINK routers that work well but are a little older without the latest port forwarding protocols. Accordingly manual port forwarding by changing some settings is going to be needed to get this to work outside my home. This is all due to the public IP address we all use when accessing the Internet. If you use a dynamic DNS service, I bet this would work better too. They say this works over let/3G cell connection but you better have a great data plan because this will use significant bandwidth. I took off a star because my router would not work immediately.

Connects but never shows a program

Can’t seem to make this work. It connects to the network and the computer, computer is running EyeTV, but program never plays. Tried selecting program directly from guide - no good. Tried “clicking” through channels to select, - still no good. Some support would be nice, but can’t find any. And, sadly, I’m sure there are no refunds. Wish I could set up a source of income like this - no working product, no support, just revenue! Any comment, Elgato?

Search

Needs a search feature. Definitely in the "guide" section. Ideally in every section. Was coming here to write a new review. I see that I wrote the above some time back. Still applies...

Doesn't work.

Can I get my money back? It just plain doesn't work. Can't find the app or network. Junk.

Just ok.

Too bad the EyeTV app doesn't stream high quality video via AirPlay back to an AppleTV... Then it could compete with SimpleTV. The program guide could be much better, with improvements to view programming for more than one channel. It's a good start, but EyeTV is such a great product, why not do better?

Broken under iOS 8/Yosemite

Running the latest version of EyeTV on my Mac and this version of the iOS EyeTV app results in unwatchably jittery video on both my iPhone 5 and iPad Air. This would be an excellent product if it worked. The configuration is easy and the app is otherwise well designed. Please fix this, Elgato!

Audio streams but not video

App doesn't work. Would like money refunded.

Doesn’t work right now

To its credit, the app has worked for me well—in the past. however since I updated my devices to iOS 8 and Yosemite, I can’t get the two apps to recognize each other at all. It offers to turn eyeTV on on the mac, while it’s already on, and then cannot. I’ve gotten my five dollars worth of use out of the app thus far, but for right now, I must wait until the problems are corrected.

Works great

Have eyetv running in Florida and Wisconsin homes. Never miss a home NFL game. Takes some work to set up properly, but once everything is working, you are good to go. Very dependable.

Works great! No issues

I was worried after reading the negative reviews, but realized $5 is not much when compared to the cost of my mac, my iPhone, and far cheaper than buying a new TV. I decided to take the risk... and haven't encountered any problems. I bought the app. Opened it. It found my EyeTV computer right away and started streaming without issue. I'm running EyeTV on a Mac Mini (2.5 GHz Intel Core i5) that is hard wired (via Ethernet) to my router.

Doesn't work well enough to justify expense

Don't waste your time. Video stutter. App has always been a waste.

Support Lacking

I have been a user of EyeTV for many years to mainly stream TV from my Mac Mini (only used for EyeTV and to occasionally but not simultaneously stream to my Samsung HDTV) to my iPhone and iPad when I'm on the road. I had tried the first generation Singbox but returned it for refund due to compatibility issues with Apple products and that company's total disregard at the time to the Apple segment of the market. I then bought the EyeTV Hybrid which was billed as more Mac-friendly and at first it was pretty reliable. Not the greatest picture and sometimes a little choppy but it was watchable and I could maybe attribute that to bandwidth and interference issues. But as the years have gone by the device and mainly it's software have become more and more unstable. The device worked adequately for my needs until a mandated software update a couple of years ago unleashed a series of problems. It's been wonky ever since. There are glitches, crashes and hangups (failure to recognize software updates and loss of functionality) that make it far less than reliable and a nuisance to use. The application no longer launches properly and it is unstable after launch. The application has to be restarted multiple times per day and you have to painstakingly walk through the process each and every time. There is very little remote connectivity any more. Is the device an older model? Sure. Could some of the problems be caused by Apple updates? Absolutely! Support and connectivity for various Apple phones and laptops has been dropped over the years and it seems as if no fixes are being written any longer to help the Hybrid work with any device. Is the answer to buy a newer EyeTV device that is more compatible with my iPhone, iPad, MacBook? Probably. But at this time my experience with EyeTV is irreparably damaged and I cannot recommend the device or the company.

so far, I am impressed

After reading the reviews of this app, I wasn't sure how well it would work. I have to say I am very pleased with it. I just started using EyeTV on my iMac this week. Last night, I sat out on my patio and watched live tennis on my iPad Air with almost perfect quality. No stuttering or buffering. Set up the app for remote access from work over wifi and was delighted with the performance. Not always a perfect picture, but overall very good quality. I have a late-2013 iMac with 24gb RAM and an Apple Airport base station. I recommend this app if you have decent hardware to support the video stream.

The worst

Thought I would give this a try, and it's the worst. Was first hoping that I could watch my NFL recordings, but I must first convert them to H.264. Takes hours. Live TV is a joke. Video stutters and jitters. Impossible to watch - and I am on a local network with incredible wifi. It's great that I can setup recordings, but there is no way to adjust the recording time - I always like to extend games by 30 minutes. Also, no way to search the guide... browse only. Totally NOT worth $5.

EyeTV is not ready for Prime Time

Don't waste your money. I have been using EyeTV for a number of year and have always been happy with it. This is not the case the EyeTV for the iPad. It skips a lot an is hard to follow. If you were getting it directly off the air it might be better.

Excellent addition to an EyeTV system

EyeTV combined with this app has changed the way we watch TV in our house. Firstly, it brings the EyeTV program guide always to hand, and it is easy to quickly pull out the app, check what’s on and click record, all without touching the Mac running EyeTV. Secondly, our kids regularly use the app to watch recordings or live TV without tying up the big screen connected full-time to the EyeTV Mac. Lastly, I have used this from outside my home network on a number of occasions when I’ve been on the road and it works really well. To other reviewers noting problems, it pays to make sure the Mac you’re running EyeTV on has a fast CPU, since EyeTV has to encode the mobile stream on the fly… if you run into problems, run Activity Monitor on the Mac and check the CPU usage. Finally, to use the remote viewing from outside a home network, you have to make a firewall/router port mapping to the Mac, but this isn’t hard to do. Would definitely recommend this app, and at the current price it’s a bargain.

I Want My Money Back

At $5.00 (US), this is a relatively expensive app which makes it *extremely* aggravating that it does not work. The very few times I have been able to get it to function, there was terrible video stuttering until the video eventually stopped streaming. Navigating back within the app produced only a black screen. Most of the time, however, the app clocks while trying to connect, with a message saying the app is unable to find EyeTV on the network (I am accessing my home network over WIFI). I was robbed of $5.00 for an app that does not work and I want my money back!!

Unwatchable

Video streaming is not working at all. Previous version was better than this one.

Graphic CPU

I have had the elgato tuner for my macintosh computers for a long time. It did a good job of recording video and playing it back on my computer. Formatting time for the recorded video was almost as long as the recorded video itself. I was glad to see this app when it first came out, but joy turned to disappointment in short order. The recordings I had made streamed back from my computer to my iPad quite nicely and played without a hitch. Streaming live tv however was a horrible experience. Frozen, stuttering video and out of sync audio was the result. I blamed my home wifi network. I bought an elgato HD stick to speed the formatting of recorded video. The Elgato Turbo.264 is a hardware video encoder it was suppose to help stream live video to ipad and iphone. the improvement in streaming live tv to my mobile devices was minor at best. I was using my Elgato TV tuner on two different computers 2006 iMac and or early 2009 Mac Mini. neither computer provided very good performance for the Elgato live tv streaming. I purchased a MacBook Air late 2013 in August. The MBA has the Intel 5000 graphics. When I hooked up the elgato tuner and the turbo.254 to the MBA the live tv streaming to my ipad and iPhone was working as intended. The last two software upgrades from elgato have also helped. I really think the strength of the CPU and graphics card of the host computer are the key factors and getting decent streaming from your computer to your iPad.

So much potential, but frequently disappoints

The functionality of this app is truly great. The design is perfectly fine. I wish I could delete shows from the app as well but that is not critical. What is critical is smooth playback via standard wifi connections, and that is where I end up frustrated with this app. Whether staying at a hotel or with someone on their home, when I try to play back a show from my library I only get a few mins playback before it starts pausing to buffer frequently and sometimes permanently. Support has not been helpful. Unfortunately it's not usable.

Marked Improvement with recent software upgrades!

My experience with the recent Mac and iOS updates: markedly improved video streaming and audio that is always in sync. Although I had uninstalled the previous version due to steaming interruptions despite confirmed 50 megabits/second download speeds and rock solid wi-Fi, I am glad I invested the time and took the risk to try these upgrades. Very happy, so far.

Worthless product

I read the reviews about the earlier version and decided not to purchase. I was hopeful that the newer version fixed the issues raised in the reviews about the earlier version. I was wrong. This product just doesn't work. Despite repeated efforts get it to work, including spending time on the Help site I am giving up. Generally I get a blank screen. When I do get anything, which is a rare occasion, it is choppy and unwatchable. I have only tried it across my home network

Bad lag

I have to report the same as other users. Very poor video playback of live tv. Need to figure this out.

Bad update

Please fix the bugs on your recent update, annoying error on poor bandwidth keep appearing on the screen while my device has full signal bars....Fix it!!!!

Don't charge for something that doesn't work

Caveat emptor. Horrible audio and video stutter with live TV. I read the reviews but still purchased. My mistake. I may use occasionally to set up and watch recordings, but that's not what I spent the money for. Elgato--If you can't get the live TV working well then drop it from the app, or call it out, or charge less. Very disappointing.

Pretty but non-functional

Horrible stutter and out of sync audio when trying to watch recorded video over my home wifi network now.
